Brain Education for Human Development Workshop at the UN

On March 19, 2009, representatives from United Nations departments and mission countries gathered in Conference Room B at the United Nations in New York City for a workshop hosted by the International Brain Education Association (IBREA). The ‘Brain Education for Human Development’ workshop was held in celebration of ‘Brain Awareness Week’ in partnership with the Dana Foundation. The event was also held to mark the launching of the Brain World magazine.

Ilchi Lee, president of BR Consulting, Sedona, AZ, organized and addressed the workshop.

IBREA at UNBecause of the ongoing activities of IBREA at the UN, many UN staff members participated in this latest Brain Education event. They were introduced to the new Brain World magazine. Among the 10 lectures, they heard one on basic brain structure and function by Elkhonon Goldberg, Ph.D. (photo on right), Clinical Professor of Neurology at the New York University School of Medicine and Diplomate, American Board of Professional Psychology in Clinical Neuropsychology. They learned about how Brain Education principles are connected to human development, to a desire to work for the benefit of many people, and to spiritual growth. This part of the workshop ended with a Brain Education experiential session featuring Brain Wave Vibration (see photo below).

At the end of the event, participants heard about IBREA’s new ‘$1 Project’ and its philosophy that each citizen of the earth has a responsibility to take care of their home and its inhabitants. It involves people joining and donating $1/month, or $12/year, for human development. IBREA will donate the funds it raises to the UNICEF program for the health of mothers and their children. Many interested attendees were taking Brain Education classes in the area, and doing Brain Education research.

BE exercise at UNJust as Ilchi Lee’s interaction with the United Nations began in 2000 with a ‘Prayer of Peace’ at the UN Millennium Summit, this ‘Brain Education for Human Development’ workshop started with a reading of this Prayer. Since its first reading at the United Nations, the ‘Prayer of Peace’ has been read there at the IBREA Inauguration, the 4th Annual Brain HSP Olympiad, and the opening of the IBREA office in 2008. In 2009, the prayer was read at the ‘Brain Education for Global Mental Health’ event in January, This event contributed to New York City proclaiming ‘Brain Education Day’ on January 8. The last time it was read was at the opening of the ‘UN Brain Education Center for Peace and Human Development’ in New York City.

IBREA intends to use Ilchi Lee’s successful creation and dissemination of Brain Education to continually collaborate with the United Nations in their common vision of ultimate human development and world peace.
